How do you qualify an additive manufacturing machine?
It is very important that suppliers and OEM’s take the steps to qualify their additive manufacturing machines in order to establish baseline performance and ensure the quality of the material.
Companies have varying levels of machine qualification depending on the industry, part criticality, as well as machine/process combination. I’ll layout a few high-level considerations when identifying the right way to qualify your machine.
You may think it’s technology, or the Customers and projects that drive change and advancement. While those are certainly necessary components, they are not the most essential pieces of the puzzle.
It’s our Associates. Our LAI Associates are more important than our Customers. It’s our collective knowledge, experience and skillset that keep the LAI machine running, and on an upward trajectory.
Earlier this year, Sandvick Coromant, a metal cutting tool manufacturer, reached out to LAI International for an interview with Caitlin Oswald. They were looking to develop an article on additive manufacturing, to inspire the younger generation reading Metalworking World, particularly women seeking a career within engineering.
