SCOTTSDALE,
ARIZ., April 8, 2011 — LAI International, Inc., a strategic supplier of
precision components and subassemblies for original equipment
manufacturers, announced it will feature its advanced hole-drilling
technology at the SALA laser technology event, Hartford, Conn., April
13-14.
LAI International has pioneered
development of processing shaped cooling holes for aerospace and power
generation industries using advanced laser, electrical-discharge
machining (EDM) and an enhanced abrasive waterjet milling technology
that eliminates thermal distortion, re-cast layers and the need for
secondary operations. LAI recently has expanded its Advanced
Hole-Drilling Production Center to process turbine components for power
generation and aerospace applications.
LAI’s
Strategic Products Group will spotlight precision components
processed using advanced hole-drilling technologies — including
laser, waterjet and EDM machining — at its exhibit at the SALA
event. LAI will also promote its partnership with Flow Systems, flow
measurement specialists in Berthoud, Colo., to develop Single-Hole Flow
Technology.
“This is a further development of our
innovative precision hole-drilling processes, which provide a number of
advantages over non-traditional machining methods, such as reducing
cycle-times, producing superior hole quality and allowing greater
design freedom,” Darcy Dodge, Vice President of Strategic Markets and
Products, LAI International, said.
Flow Systems
will show the results of testing of LAI’s precision 0.020-inch diameter
holes drilled normal to the surface using three different drilling
technologies — EDM, laser and waterjet drilling.
“Having worked with Darcy Dodge at LAI International and the rest of
the LAI International team for a number of years, we’ve come to
appreciate and share their passion to be at the forefront of precision
drilling for aerospace and power generation industies,” Mike
Carter, COO, Flow Systems, said.
The
Sixth-Annual Symposium for Advanced Laser Applications is a leading
laser conference focusing on end-user and manufacturing applications.
The event is sponsored by the Connecticut Center for Advanced
Technology and takes place at the Hilton Hartford, Hartford, Conn.
