LAI precision laser drills a wide variety of composite and alloy materials.

LAI has developed special advanced laser drilling techniques used to process an advanced aerospace septum component. The laser workstation drills 0.0048-inch diameter holes perpendicular through 0.030-inch thick fiberglass composite material.

LAI drills 4.8 million holes per part at an amazing concentration of 1.2 million holes per square inch. The parts are static flow tested for a specified open area. The laser workstations, designed and built by LAI engineers and technicians, are dedicated to the advanced laser drilling process at the company's facility in Westminster, Md.

Features of laser drilling application:

  • 4.8 million holes drilled per 4 x 4 inches square part
  • Concentration of 1.2 million holes per square inch
  • Hole diameter of 0.0048 inches
  • Thickness of material: 0.030 inches
  • Static flow tested for a specified open area
